What brings being natural to mind is all the relaxed hair I see on black women every day. What a waste. Most of the time its just pulled back in a pony tail or completely neglected. It costs a fortune to maintain because each time some natural hair grows out, it needs to be smote down with some harsh chemicals.
It's ridiculous. And I don't think anyone can argue that it's not to try and live up to a white standard of beauty.
Black people make comments about "good hair" and "bad hair" all the time, good hair being straight and bad hair being kinky. I know the fucked up history behind many of the reasons issues such as hair relaxing exist, but it doesn't help it make more sense to me. If anything, I would see keeping one's natural hair as a great expression of saying fuck you to white ideals of beauty and the calculated tactics that have imbued black women with an inferiority complex over their hair.
This topic is near and dear to me because I spent nearly three years with a black woman who, very shortly after we met up, decided to go natural. I encouraged it from the start, asking her why she was "selling out to the man" with her relaxed do. The improvement from relaxed, lank and pulled back in a pony tail to healthy, full, curly and natural is so astoundingly huge that it can hardly be articulated. I love attractive black women with natural hair.
And I think relaxed hair is such a travesty. While I can't be so bold as to say I wouldn't date a girl who relaxes her hair, I'm not going to go chase down a sister who's fucking up her locks like that. Not a chance. To be honest, if I wanted straight hair, I'd date a white, Asian, Indian or Arab chick.
Still, I hold out hope that someday the hot-comb will be a distant memory and all the salons that are making a killing charging for the process and relaxing will go out of business. It's a damned shame for anyone to be ashamed of what their hair naturally does.
To further this point, I'm not fond of girls who dye or perm their hair, either. Especially brunettes that go blonde. What a waste. Bottle blondes are not hotter than brunettes. Hell, natural blondes aren't, either. Brunette hair is gorgeous, and it'd be nice if white women would get it through their heads that blonde isn't the ideal hair color.
Next on the list of natural v. artificial ... anyone who thinks a pair of fake tits is attractive or desirable needs to be committed to mental institution. Small and real is better than big and fake. Honestly, no tits is better than fake tits. Fake ones are so nasty; they're an affront to the inherent beauty of natural breasts.
Since no one reads this, it's really of no consequence. I just wanted to give a shout out to all the sisters with kinky hair, to all the brunettes who refuse to go blonde and to all the women who'd never go under the knife and massacre themselves for some utterly absurd notion of attractiveness.
