Out In On the Weekend | March 23, 2008 | 18:03

I managed to avoid leaving the house today, despite a fairly strong need to go grocery shopping. A good weekend for me is one where I don't have to face a single other New Yorker, unless absolutely necessary. It's side-effect of being intensely anti-social.

I wrote a song about living in Bed-Stuy, called "(I'm Gonna Die) In Bed-Stuy" (listen to it at divided front) and it opens with "I haven't left the house for seven days".

I'm trying to remember if there ever was a time I haven't left my house for seven days, and I doubt it; I rarely buy enough food to keep me from having to go out to eat. Still, it reflects the likelihood that if I had food enough, I probably wouldn't leave my apartment until the food ran out.

Do I hate cars or people more? What keeps me in the city is the ease of getting around without a car. I abhor driving. I also abhor people, though, so the population density of this place is pretty daunting. I would love to be somewhere sparsely populated with great public transit, but I've no idea if that place exists.
